The Heart of England

The Long Mynd

On this occassion, the dramatic side lighting I wanted did not materialise, but in its place was a cold dramatic view of the Long Mynd. In September this area is covered in heather with colourful results. I am led to believe in 2006 a great deal of the heather was destroyed by a beetle. Hopefully the heather will bounce back.

The area was advertised as "Little Switerland" around 1880-1900 and you can see why when you visit the Shropshire Hills area.
There are many relatively rare species on the Long Mynd such as rare water beetles and birds including; Red Grouse, Ring Ouzel, Snipe, Windchat and Stonechat.
