Caernarfon Castle at Dusk

Caernarfon Castle nestles neatly between Snowdonia National Park and the beautiful Lleyn Peninsula. In every way this castle is perfectly placed. For a Landscape photographer the meeting of a Castle and the sea represent a good combination!

I went to Caernarfon specifically to make an image of the castle. I wanted to capture that relatively short space of time when the castle is illuminated by both the natural light of the setting sun and the castles own artificial lights.

The exposure was not straight forward and I used Lee’s superb ND filters to balance exposure for this image, as I do for many of my photographs. From memory I tilted the filter(s) across the top left hand corner of the image to reduce the intensity of the setting sun.

The areas around Caernarfon are outstanding and I have visited them many times with a camera and tripod at the ready. For such a relatively small area you have everything; Castles, stunning beaches, Lakes, Mountains…….need I say more.
