What a fantastic place to take Landscape photographs. Beautiful coastline with dramatic rock pavements. I had travelled to South Wales the same day and arrived in the afternoon. In January the setting sun is early and this was taken at 4:10pm as the sun was about to set and the colours intensified. I was setting the composition and waiting for people to clear the view. I tend to place people in images only when I need to show scale as they tend to draw the eye away from the scenery. However, when this couple stopped to admire the dramatic setting sun it all fell into place for this particular photograph of Dunraven Bay.

In every way this castle is perfectly placed. For a Landscape photographer the meeting of a Castle and the sea represent a good combination!

\r\nI went to Caernarfon specifically to make an image of the castle. I wanted to capture that relatively short space of time when the castle is illuminated by both the natural light of the setting sun and the castles own artificial lights.
\r\n
\r\nThe exposure was not straight forward and I used Lee’s superb ND filters to balance exposure for this image, as I do for many of my photographs. From memory I tilted the filter(s) across the top left hand corner of the image to reduce the intensity of the setting sun.
\r\n
\r\nThe areas around Caernarfon are outstanding and I have visited them many times with a camera and tripod at the ready. For such a relatively small area you have everything; Castles, stunning beaches, Lakes, Mountains…….need I say more.
