I just love the quiet, peaceful dawn shoots here. With good conditions, perfect reflections appear, and with even better fortune a touch of low lying mist. The atmosphere and views are just stunning.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThis shot was taken early on a late September morning. The sky did not look promising after another pre-dawn arrival. This was one of my later shots from this particular dawn vigil. Some 'photographers' arrived just as I was leaving!<br>\r\n<br>\r\nI have used the half submerged rock in the shallow water to 'anchor' the image with foreground detail.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nFor this photograph I found my waterproof walking boots and trousers came in handy as I was standing in a few inches of water!<br>\r\n<br>\r\nLandscape Photography seems so natural in places such as this. My first visit coincided with a glorious summer's day which is not the sort of light I look for in a photograph. I aim for more dramatic side lighting given by a low sun and hopefully some interesting cloud formations. <br>\r\n<br>\r\nSo on my way back from another dawn shoot I noticed as I drove around Ullswater that there was some very interesting light and so decided to try a second attempt at capturing the Boathouse.<br>\r\n<br>\r\nI was not to be dissapointed. Dramatic side lighting lit up one bank of the Lake while the background and far side of the lake were in deep shadow. This emphasises the boathouse and the foreground reeds in the image. I was much more pleased with the images from the second trip to Ullswater Boathouse!<br>\r\n<br>\r\nLandscape photgraphy is all about lighting. A relatively mundane scene can be transformed with dramtic lighting. Wonderful shafts of light beamed through and over the surrounding mountains from Catbells, highlighting the early golden colours near to the boat house on the Island. Using the Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VR gave me enough 'reach' to highlight the boathouse and this fabulous light in a relatively tight composition.
